My piece for Pixel Drip’s I’m the Avatar, Deal With It! art show coming up later this spring.

)GET IT it’s like an old SEP cover because the show’s all old-tymey, I’m so brilliant)
“TLOK is like the posterchild of pretty good ideas terribly executed.
>Have a tough, risk-seeking heroine
>Push her into a MFF lovetriangle
>Have an interesting city that is the melting pot of all nation’s cultures
>spent most of your time in an arena playing dodgeball
>have an enigmatic villain, with a relatable agenda
>he barely shows up and when he does, he’s lol-evul
>have superb, fascinating adult characters
>spent most of your time with one-dimensional teens
>give mysterious flashbacks hinting at unfinished business involving the previous Avatar
>wrap it up in the most lackluster way possible”

You’re right. The Royal Procession is dead weight. If I want to catch my prey, I must be agile, nimble. I need a small, elite team. It’s time to visit some old friends.

Spiritual State (click for full ver.) by dCTb
Probably the last Korra related piece I’ll do for a while. I had a lot of fun (especially with the water and “earth”) although coloring it was super challenging. I’d like to make this and a few other pictures available for print. Once I do, I’ll post a journal, so if you’re interested in getting a print from me in the future, be on the look out!

All work done in GIMP•Style inspired by ~kidchan
•Title is from the amazing song, “Spiritual State” by Nujabes feat Uyama Hiroto [link] I could listen to that song on loop forever.
•photo of clouds that I took is used in the background
•Calligraphy site used for generating stylized Chinese characters which I traced over. [link]
•About the chinese characters from the Avatar wikia: “the characters can be translated to:
降世神通 - the divine medium who has descended upon the world (e.g. the Avatar).”

Reason #102020 why this show was a huge letdown: This storyline was never fully explored and textually it actually seems like we’re supposed to agree that those people are oppressing themselves. Korra’s actions are never actually called out after this and her attitude toward the non-benders don’t really change.
“You’re our Avatar, too.”
Except not really. At least she never shows it because apparently everything was perfect again once Amon was defeated and the Equalists just seemingly went away and all the non-benders just stopped giving a shit about not having a member in the biggest political body in the city or people in the police department etc.
If it didn’t sound so much like this plot will just be dropped for Season 2, I wouldn’t have minded, but S2 is all about spirits and shit so yeah.

They could have done so much good with this both in actually speaking out against people who really seem to think like this and in developing Korra as a character. Instead they wasted a whole episode building a shitty love triangle and more time in later episodes making it worse.
