I keep waiting for a writer to remember that despite all their snark and bullshit, Astonishing X-Men ended like this. I was hoping these two women would evolve and they could even be friends, but it’s like Kitty has to take a stab at Emma every chance she gets now. Like about Paige she says that’s the last time she hires one of Emma Frost’s former students and she slut shamed in her the letters page. It’s not cute.
X-Men: First Class

Steve: Scott Summers, you are under arrest for crimes against—
Scott: Shut up.
Ororo: Stay down, Scott. I beg you.
Steve: I don’t.

Dani makes her case to Scott for the New Mutants move into San Francisco. This is a great example of how to use art to tell a complete story.

Kurt: How come Rogue is always Rogue whether she’s in uniform or not?
Scott: The same reason Jean is always “Jean.”
Kurt: And now that you mention it, why is that?
(X-Men: Evolution #4)

International Playboy with Dubious Facial Hair should definitely replace Genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist.
Scott: One crisis has blurred into the next. There’s never enough time to draw a line under anything. Too many loose ends. Never enough closure.
Dani: Illyana found closure.
Scott: Maybe that’s the positive lesson I’m taking from recent events. I want your team to start cleaning up all of the X-Men’s unfinished business.
Dani: Once a week, we could wash your car and take out the trash, too.
Scott: I’m serious.
Dani: I know that about you.
Scott: Unfinished business. The Nimrod you dealt with today was a perfect example. Sooner or later, one of the loose ends we keep leaving behind is going to…
Dani: Bite us on the proverbial?
Scott: Yes. And that’s if we’re lucky.
DanI: Where would you like my team to start?

Jean: We’ve got to help him!
Scott: You’re reading my mind again?
Todd: Come back to… finish me off…?
Jean: Can’t… do it…
Todd: Thanks for… trying guys, but… it’s really not… worth it…
—-
Todd (thinking): Why couldn’t you have just left me there?
—-
Jean: Scott he’s —
Scott: —a mutant? Yeah, no kidding.
We have to get back to Professor Xavier and ask him how he wants to handle this. Hopefully Todd can join us at the institute.
Jean: I don’t think he will. I read his thoughts, just for a second and—
Nothing. Never mind. I guess we all feel that way at the beginning.
(X-Men: Evolution #3)
Basically Toad was getting bullied and tried to kill himself and his English class by crashing a bus.
Also Jean was probably feeling suicidal recently as well based on her last statement.
Scott

you are being adorable, stop it.

Yes she is pretty, stop.

Focus.

Scott, there are two telepaths in the room.

Look, now you’re caught.
